How it works

From first search to a short list in three steps.

1Pick your building

Start from where your week happens.

Choose Kelley, Wells Library, the IMU or Sample Gates. Every listing gets an estimated walk from there, so you can sort by what's actually close.

2Set your budget

Compare rent per bedroom.

Set a max per bedroom and a five-bedroom house compares fairly with a one-bedroom. When a big house looks priced per person, we flag it so you can check.

3Shortlist and get alerts

See what's closest, then let it come to you.

Results sort by your walk, with each landlord's own listing one click away. Save the search and we'll email you when a new place, a price drop or a date change matches.

Questions students ask.

When should IU students start looking for off-campus housing?

Earlier than most people expect. Many Bloomington leases for the next school year are signed in the fall and winter before, and some landlords already list units for the year after that.

Does it cost anything?

No. Searching and email alerts are free for students.

How are walk times calculated?

From the straight-line distance between the listing and the campus building you pick, adjusted for street layout at an average walking pace. They're estimates for comparing places, not routes.

Where do the listings come from?

From Bloomington property managers' own public listing pages. The crawler stops where their robots.txt says to, so some managers' full inventory isn't included. Confirm details with the landlord before you pay or sign anything.

Can I find subleases and roommates here?

Not yet. Listings are full leases from property managers. You can filter for bigger places if you're splitting rent with a group.

Is this run by Indiana University?

No. Lease Radar is an independent student project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Indiana University.
